Where I have been

As some of you may know I went through a severe car crash a few years back which came with some struggles. I was hit by an articulated lorry on the motorway. Swinging the car and skidding me down the road parallel for several hundred metres, the other driver unaware of the collision entirely until other drivers flagged him down. Stuck on the front of the grill I was desperate for the uncontrollable movement to stop. I lost a lot of mobility, confidence and self esteem. The physical impacts and trauma turned into a much deeper issue. The trauma had affected me further than I once thought, until I addressed it. My diet had to change dramatically, allergies and intolerance kept flaring up where I was strictly limited to what I could intake.

I sort out help for my chronic physical pain from physiotherapists, chiropractors and also osteopaths. I struggled with my neck and lower back especially. Finding that each time something new would crop up and the pain would go around in a frustrating and devastatingly painful circle. My body didn’t really respond to the treatments as well as I would have hoped.

So I went on to find what yoga could offer me…

I went along to a Bikram class and immediately got hooked, going everyday it was an addiction. I reaped the physical benefits pretty quickly but the emotional side of my healing was covered to one side. I loved my practice and the routine the classes gave me, however the Bikram series was not enough and I started to realise this.

Going to a few different classes including Hatha, Vinyasa and Ashtanga yoga; exploring what the other styles could offer me I connected with Hatha yoga the most. At this time I was working in the fashion industry in the image team where I honestly wasn’t appreciating the art as much as others, it simply wasn’t for me. I went away for a year travelling around Western Australia and South East Asia, and pretty early on in that year decided to complete my Yoga Teacher Training in Classical Hatha Yoga. I did so with Akasha Yoga Academy and it was the most rewarding and intensive time of my life.

I came back to the UK and moved down to Cornwall where I started teaching a few classes a week in a studio, occasional classes in cafe’s and private sessions. This was a great way for me to get started but it was not my vocation.

For those who were wondering what I’ve been up to recently, I am now ready to share with you… my new website and business!
